The growth and development process of garlic refers to the whole process from sowing and germinating with garlic cloves to receiving garlic, regaining new garlic cloves and entering a dormant state, also known as a growth cycle.
The length of garlic growth period varies greatly depending on the sowing period. Spring sowing garlic has a shorter growth period of only 90-100 days. The growth period of autumn sowing garlic is 220-270 days due to a long overwintering period.
According to the characteristics of the growth process of garlic in its life, whether spring sowing or autumn sowing, it can be divided into six periods, that is the period of germination and emergence, seeding period, bulb and flower bud differentiation, garlic sprout elongation, bulb expansion period and dormancy period. The morphological characteristics of each period are obviously different, but they are mutually reinforcing and restricting each other.
In order to obtain higer yield, it is necessary to understand and master the characteristics of different growth periods and take scientific and reasonable vultivation measures to carry out cultivation management.
