Indian Garlic Prices Go Down

Feb 18, 2024

Due to the increase in local farm supply and the arrival of a new production season, the price of Indian garlic per kilogram has significantly decreased by 150 rupees. The decline in garlic prices has sparked optimism in India's export trade with major garlic importing countries such as Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, and Bangladesh.
The wholesale price of garlic has dropped to 100-200 rupees per kilogram, in sharp contrast to the price of 300-350 rupees per kilogram a week ago. A garlic exporter commented, "Garlic exports are affected by prices. In December, due to higher prices, garlic exports decreased, but now with the decrease in prices, we expect overseas orders to increase."
The daily garlic delivery volume in the Choitham market has increased from 1000 bags per day at the end of January to 10000 bags per day now. Due to the increase in garlic production and the expansion of planting area, traders expect the supply of garlic for the new season to further increase in the coming weeks.
Mandsaur and Neemuch, located in Madhya Pradesh, remain the main garlic producers and exporters in India, with garlic exports from these regions accounting for over 80% of the country's total exports.
